Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Beginning life as the brainchild of Prime Minister John A. McDonald and originally named the "North West Mounted Rifles", inspiration for the creation of the national force originated from the Royal Irish Constabulary, a quasi-military colonial British occupation force of Ireland from 1822 to 1922. Hailing from the Shelburne, Nova Scotia detachment in the 1950s, we have an original RCMP porcelain sign. Acquired by our consigner’s father who served as the commanding officer at Shelburne, the sign was gifted when the RCMP changed all signs to both French and English language in the early-1970s. At 15 ½” x 23”, the hefty porcelain sign is finished in royal blue, with gold text along with a detailed emblem. Grommets are positioned at each corner as well as the top and bottom to facilitate mounting, with just light overall edge wear present, with a bit of paint residue on the reverse. An LOA from our consignor will accompany.
