Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Responsible for saving big league hockey in Pittsburgh, Mario Lemieux was in his second NHL season when cards like this were discovered in packs of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards, with this well-centered example recently examined by KSA and graded 6.5 ENM+. A light touch at each corner and a couple of right edge nicks are observed, along with a hint of a diamond cut. As the back of card #9 indicates, it did not take Lemieux long to "cut his goal-scoring teeth" at the NHL level, popping one in on his first shift in his first game and going on to record an even 100 points in his initial campaign to earn rookie-of-the-year honors. The rookie card of a hockey icon is encapsulated in a KSA holder without scratches.
