Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
The first player to be inducted into the now-defunct Veterans category of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Buddy O’Connor spent numerous seasons with his hometown Montreal Royals before joining the mighty Montreal Canadiens in 1941-42, and won Stanley Cup championships with the Habs in 1944 and 1946. Additional seasons would be spent with the New York Rangers before hanging up his skates after parts of two seasons in the AHL during the early-1950s. Originating from the family of Buddy O’Connor, we offer a great group of items, including a Rice Studios photo in the original presentation folder, a 1941-42 Canadiens team photo on card stock (12 ½” x 16 ½”), an original drawing of O’Connor from 1949, three original 8” x 10” photos including one signed to his wife, and six 1940s Canadiens programs with Buddy in each line-up, followed by a seventh program from the early-1950s while O’Connor was with the Rangers. An LOA from the O’Connor family will accompany.
The Rice photo is 10 ½” x 13 ½” and affixed to a 12 ½” x 17” mount, with some toning and minor discolouration to the presentation folder. The 1941-42 team photo exhibits corner wear with a number of creases, with the 8” x 10” photos showing moderate wear, with one image sporting a tear. The programs all appear complete and show expected handling wear, with the majority showing a vertical crease.
