“These look nice” is the thought that comes when first opening the 400-count box that houses this 1981-82 O-Pee-Chee set, while examining the 396 cards leads to the following summary. It appears as though the cards have been looked at possibly two or three times in 30 years, with the beautiful original gloss most striking and crisp, clean NM-or-better examples the norm. Dozens of NM-MT-or-better beauties are to be discovered, with however classic OPC production flaws coming into play, namely the (considerable) amount of examples with less-than-perfect centering. Intermittent examples with print “snow” (Paul Coffey RC)(NM) and not-always-smooth edges are also observed, with the first (#1-Bourque) and last ten or so exhibiting a corner ding. A little push to part of the upper right edge of Wayne Gretzky’s regular (#106) card is noteworthy, while joining Coffey in the rookie card class (of 55) are those of Kurri, Savard, Moog, Murphy, Stastny, Anderson, Ciccarelli and Lowe. Five other Gretzky cards also contribute, as do unmarked checklists, with a slight curvature to the cards also to mention. You should be getting the picture by now; you’ll be getting lots of pack fresh cards if you’re the high bidder, with submission candidates among them.
