Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Lots of numbers to tell you about, with “1951-52” always piquing the interest of Parkhurst fans and Terry Sawchuk’s 103 career shutouts among the numerous factors rendering his Parkie rookie card desirable. A few creases are spotted in the example here but they’re not too unsightly, with back damage (glue residue) contributing to the “1 FP” grade that card #61 received from KSA. Better and combining to dominate are 5 EX (21) and 4 VGE (16) cards, although none of the other big name rookie cards are present. The 5 EX group includes 72-Meeker and 96-Laprade, along with numbers 2, 8. 12, 23. 25, 33, 38, 40, 42, 58, 65, 74, 78, 79, 84, 87, 91, 93 and 100, while most notable among the 4 VGEs are 19-Sugar Jim Henry, 50-Roy Conacher, 70-Watson and 80-Flaman. If you’re curious, the other 4s are 9, 36, 39, 43, 57, 59, 73, 88, 89, 90, 95 and 101. There are then ten slabbed 3 VG (11-Mosdell, 27-Sullivan, 83-Mackell), nine in holders labeled “2 G” (37-Gadsby, 53-J. Stewart) and a couple at 1 FP (17, 54). The Maple Leafs (14) and Rangers (12) are tops in the (quantity) numbers game, followed by the Black Hawks (10), Red Wings (9), Bruins (8) and Canadiens (6). Two raw entries are 39-Martin and 89-Eddolls, both of them G. Gee, the only other aspect to mention is that a mark or scratch or combination of the two (sometimes multiples) affect the vast majority of the KSA holders. An interesting start to a ’51-52 Parkie set or interesting inventory awaits.
