A two-time All-Star throughout his five WHA seasons, Barry Long was traded from Edmonton to Winnipeg in 1976-77 and spent two different stints in River City, including after the club joined the NHL in 1980-81 and 1981-82. Long would go on to coach the Jets during the mid-decade. This Winnipeg Jets jersey was worn by the Red Deer native in 1976-77. Sporting a large Harv-Al Knit label affixed to the single red collar with an “XL” size fly tag, the vintage garment measures-out to roughly a size 50. Featuring a chain-stitched Jets team crest with “3” sewn to the sleeves and verso in blue-over-red layered tackle twill, “Long” appears screened over the sewn nameplate, with no fight strap present. We should also note that only one set of jerseys were issued for the Winnipeg Jets for the 1976-77 WHA season. Long would finish the season with 47 points in 71 regular-season games, with an additional 6 points earned during the playoffs.
Sporting some frayed threading along the bottom right seam, there are marks visible along with staining in areas – including over the upper and lower right sleeve, with pilling to the interior. The hems over each cuff have also come loose, along with areas of the reinforcing material beneath the elbows.
