Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Chasing Nels Stewart's all-time NHL record of 324 goals, Maurice Richard tied the historic number on October 29, 1952, in a two-goal effort against the Maple Leafs. The Rocket then surpassed Old Poison on Nov 8, 1953 to become the NHL’s all-time goal leader. Entering the 1953-54 season as a Stanley Cup champion, the Rocket was “propelled” to even greater heights with the signing of this original NHL contract that included an increased salary from the previous season. Produced for just the 1953-54 season, the Standard Player’s Contract (8 ½” x 16” folded) called for Richard to earn $12,000.00 for the year (just under $200,000.00 in 2021 dollars), with no additional bonuses listed or addendums. Richard has signed in black ink along with fellow enshrined members Clarence Campbell and William Northey. There is also a stamp from the Central Registry dated “Oct 3, 53”. The highly desirable contract remains in excellent condition with punched holes along the left from prior binder insertion.
