Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Yes, a complete 1961 Topps baseball set and some nifty complements are on the auction block here, with similar yet different images of Mickey Mantle featured on his regular (#300)(VG-EX), All-Star (EX) and MVP (VG+) cards. Several grades are represented and although dozens of NM-or-better cards feature some appealing original gloss, we spot a little something or more when inspecting many/most of the key star and rookie cards, sending the vast majority to the VG-EX to EX range. An otherwise EX-MT+ Juan Marichal RC is affected by two side-to-side print lines and is miscut on the back, while 388-Clemente (top-to-bottom print line – otherwise EX-MT) and 150-Mays (EX+) lead the stars condition-wise, with 287-Yastrzemski (VG-EX+) and 415-Aaron (EX (OC)) also notable. Creases are minimal throughout but lesser light notables include 2-Maris (VG), 35-Santo RC (VG+), 141-Williams RC (VG) and 290-Musial (VG+). Only a few 7th Series high numbers make it to NM (and not many others to EX-MT), with noteworthy All-Stars being Maris (VG-EX+), Mays (VG) and Spahn (VG+) and ink transfer marring the front of Aaron. We’re pointing out the flawed keys, but again, gorgeous cards are to come upon and contribute to the pieced-together ensemble. Please read on for details of all the neat extras you’ll be receiving as high bidder.
The stamp story includes three dozen loose examples, with a couple of small bends observed in the Mantle, (similar to a good majority of the others), but no bends or creases in Mays or Aaron, the latter with a few small stains. There are 35 different and a duplicate of Grammas, with minimal star power (Spahn, the Boyers) to report, while a Topps Stamp Album features 19 affixed stamps, with Musial, Maris, Face, Podres and Kaat noteworthy, the same as two loose (detached) two-page spreads in the middle. Ten Rub-Offs are headlined by a Yogi Berra insert, with Harvey Haddix, Pete Runnels and two teams (Red Sox, K.C. Athletics) also present and almost entirely crease-free/attractive condition to note. Others are Brandt, Lown, Maxwell, Moore and Moryn. Non-Topps items are also present and include a two-card Post Cereal/Life Magazine panel starring Mantle and Maris, with creasing/toning observed in the Mantle side and only a light subtle bend in that of Maris. A full ticket to a Saturday, May 6, 1961 Cincy Reds at Milwaukee Braves game (that was not played) and a stub from a May 13th game a week later in which Yogi Berra hit career home run #321 versus the Tigers add to the fun. Finally, ’61 Topps All-Star-style cards produced by Topps in 2011 complete, with the 5-card set numbered 590 to 594 and featuring Gehrig, Mantle, Jackie Robinson, John F. Kennedy and the Yankees’ famous M & M Boys. What a year 1961 was for baseball!
