An ambassador for Russia at the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sergei Fedorov enjoyed a lengthy career as one of the most prolific players throughout the 1990s, with his 13 seasons in Motor City with the Red Wings especially successful and memorable. The superstar would score over 1,000 career points while earning numerous awards including the Hart Memorial, Lester B. Pearson and Frank J. Selke, with these all won in 1993-94, the season the offered jersey was worn. An especially desirable and rarely seen “Turn Back the Clock” specimen, worn for just a handful of contests vs other Original Six clubs including the January 27th match vs Chicago, the jersey sports sewn-down East Side and CCM labeling along the collar with a size “52” fly tag, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests over the reverse hem. Styled with numerous red and white striping bands along with “Detroit” placed across the chest in individual white twill letters, “91” is sewn to the verso in layered tackle twill, with “PMK” handwritten to the fight strap. The jersey also features customized, vented sleeves, with the team stamp residing on the inside hem. Exhibiting great game-use with numerous puck and stick marks covering the front and sleeves, there are also a few small traces of red paint transfer on the lower right sleeve. Addendum; This jersey originates from the collection of a former Detroit Red Wings trainer. He recalls that an extra jersey was made for Yzerman, for Fedorov and for Coffey and that these players wore this extra jersey in the first two periods of the January 27th game vs Chicago. The Yzerman jersey went to someone else in the Red Wings organization and the offered Fedorov and Coffey jerseys up for grabs in this auction are the ones kept by our consignor (the trainer) and worn in the first two periods of the January 27th game. Jersey is now photo-matched to a screen grab from the January 27th game which is clearly showing the diagonal black mark in the white striping above the "OI" of "Detroit". An image of the match was added to the listing.
