Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A delectable offering here will have pursuers of high grade vintage hockey cards, notably rookie cards, as well as those working on a top-notch 1957-58 encapsulated Parkhurst set (or looking to up their GPA!) seriously considering this infrequent opportunity. The numbers speak for themselves, with Montreal Canadiens’ dynamo Henri Richard contributing to 11 Stanley Cup championships, more than any other player in history, while playing in more games and racking up more points than his more-heralded older brother Maurice. After proving that he was indeed NHL-caliber in his first two big league seasons, “The Pocket Rocket” blossomed into a bona fide star the season that cards like this were discovered in Parkie packs, scoring 28 goals and leading the entire league with 52 assists, his 80 points placing him second only to his linemate and NHL scoring champion Dickie Moore – amazing. Also amazing is that only six other Richard rookies have ever scored higher in the history of PSA than this tantalizing example. Light toning is observed, along with first-rate registration and an immaculate surface, with magnification required to spot two touched corners that deny a higher grade. Five MINT 9s and one NM-MT+ 8.5 edge this (Pop 34) NM-MT 8 beauty, with PSA grading 257 copies of card #4 since the firm’s inception. A special card starring the Canadiens’ legendary #16 awaits your blue-chip encapsulated shrine.
