Spending four seasons in his home province with the Lethbridge Hurricanes during the mid-1990s, Steve Begin was drafted by Calgary in 1996 and made his NHL debut for the Flames in 1997-98, seeing action in a pair of regular-season games. This Flames jersey was worn by Begin during his official rookie season, which was his second NHL season in 1999-00, where he skated in 13 contests. Pro Player labeling with “54” sizing is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Pro Player labels on the reverse hem. Styled with the Flames team crest in layered tackle twill, “26” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material along with the NHL 2000 crest sewn to the right breast. Sporting heavy game wear, the jersey was recycled for Begin’s use and shows evidence of a former nameplate, and would have first been worn by Travis Brigley - who played in 17 games in 1999-00. Puck and stick marks cover the front and sleeves, with scrapes and material pulls also visible, with board burns over each elbow section. There is also pilling in spots. The team patch noting the garment as a “1 of 1” is screened to the inside hem, with an LOA from the Flames to accompany.
**Addendum - We should mention that research shows that Steve Begin wore #7 at the beginning of the 1999-00 season, but switched to #33 on Feb 10th, and later, to #26, beginning on March 10th vs Calgary. That is the only game of the season Begin wore the #26, and it was a home contest, so while prepared for Begin’s use, the jersey would never have been worn by him, with use attributed to Travis Brigley.
