Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
A defenceman in the American Hockey League for three seasons, Michel Therrien first began coaching in the Q before taking on the Montreal Canadiens head coach position after the firing of Alain Vigneault in 2000. Therrien would stay with the Habs for parts of three seasons, returning for an additional five seasons beginning in 2012-13. Originally displayed at the Molson/Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of the Montreal native. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Therrien is beautifully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte (the painting was done before his second coaching stint). The artist has signed within the lower right, with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with some wear to the frame including a few blemishes. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
