Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Rather curious, intriguing and appealing are the five O-Pee-Chee sets comprising this lot, stored for decades in ancient “Enor” 9-pocket pages, with the cards, except for one of the 1981-82 ensembles, placed (with the utmost of care by the looks of things) back-to-back in the pages. One of the ’81-82 sets is superior to the other, with the better one featuring NM-or-better rookie cards of Coffey, Kurri, Moog, Savard, Murphy and Stastny, while crisp, sharp cards appear to be the norm for the majority of the entries in sets from ’82-83, ’83-84 and ’84-85. Centering of course is not always bang-on, with some diamond cuts also observed, but minimal condition exceptions among the key star/rookie cards are to note. Dinged corners to the two ’81-82 (regular) 106-Gretzky cards and a rough right edge with notches on the ’84-85 Gilmour RC are among the flaws that are obvious. You’re in for a mostly NM+ and NM-MT-or-better extravaganza, in our opinion, although yes, 9-pocket pages can oftentimes conceal minor flaws. Definite appreciated bonuses will be a wax wrapper from each of the four years and flattened display boxes for the last three. The latter feature Hall of Famers Stastny, Gretzky and Gillies on the boxtops and further boosts the allure. Some splendid cardboard from the 1980s should please you when it arrives, with surely some submission candidates to come upon.
