Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
While vintage hockey photography is quite difficult to locate – especially in comparison to period baseball or football images, cabinet photos featuring teams that competed in the 1910s and earlier are very hard to find. This lot offers a group of three 1910s cabinet team photos including St Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. First, we have a circa early-1910s team photo with the full squad of seven pictured on-ice, including the rover, with the goaltender sporting a built-up one-side stick. The image is approx 6” x 8” and affixed to an embellished mount to full dimensions of roughly 10” x 12” (the bottom right corner of the photo is loose with a small edge tear, with light surface and corner wear to the mount). Next, we have a small framed team photo of St Paul’s School Hockey Team from approx the very late-1910s, with the institution famous as the building ground for legendary star Hobey Baker. At approx 6 ¾” x 8” and framed to slightly larger dimensions, the full squad and two others are pictured, with the campus in the background (light wear including a small crease is visible on the image). Lastly, we have a framed cabinet photo of the Lucknow Hockey Team – “Winners of Lakeside League 1914-15”. At approx 12” x 14”, the full team and management are depicted with the players listed beneath, framed to 13 ½” x 15 ½”. The image has surface wear including a large indentation, with additional wear to the frame.
