Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

The last NHL goaltender to captain his squad, Bill Durnan experienced arguably the greatest short-term career for any HOF netminder, earning the Vezina Trophy in every season he competed in with the Montreal Canadiens from 1944 to 1950 - except just 1948. This lot contains a small Durnan stash, with a signed 1950s hockey ticket along with Bee Hive and Quaker Oats premium photos. First, at 2 ¾” x 3 ¾” and on thin orange card stock, the ticket was produced for the Russell Lions Club Hockey Night, with text stating “Guest Speaker Bill Durnan, Ottawa Senators Hockey Club Coach” (Durnan coached the Senators in 1950-51). The 1964 HOF inductee has added a ballpoint signature to the reverse, with a just a couple somewhat light areas due to the writing instrument. The ticket itself sports a few creases and toning along with a small edge tear. There is also paper loss near the signature from prior scrapbook removal. The Group 2 Bee Hive is in gorgeous high grade, while the Quaker Oats photo exhibits light surface wear and toning. A modern black and white 8” x 10” print is also included.
