Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A few neat pick-ups for a rookie card collection are available here, with other players who made their mark on the hockey world also contributing, albeit mostly in low grade fashion on 5” by 7” cards. The Hall of Fame rookie card lineup is led by 1939-40 O-Pee-Chee cards of Sid Abel and Frank Brimsek, with the former G and the latter P. Soiling, mostly on the back, as well as a few not-drastic creases are to mention with both, but no writing, tears, holes or other major flaws. Black Jack Stewart’s ’40-41 OPC RC displays decently for a low grade example, rendered so by peripheral creasing and back damage, while tears and multiple creases send a ’40-41 Turk Broda card to P. Best at EX is HOFer Clint Smith’s RC from ’39-40, with the rookie card of Jimmy Orlando featuring the same attractive characteristics but with evidence (scrapbook paper) on the back of once being pasted. Also known to hockey historians and from ’39-40 are 41-Bill “Flash” Hollett (scotch tape on the reverse but otherwise VG+) and overtime hero 43-“Mud” Bruneteau (toning, back damage but crease-free), with staining affecting cards of Maple Leafs 12-Murph Chamberlain and 16-Gus Marker. Completing the lot is a low grade Bee Hive photo of Eddie Shore, with the picture stained and re-glued to a (vintage) backing.
