Five O-Pee-Chee assemblies here are three cards shy of being complete, with lots more numbers to tell you about, along with some nifty autograph action. Twenty-one signed cards are involved in a near set of 1974-75 cards, with just 113-Pappin required for completion and autographed rookie cards of Don Cherry (multi-creased and personalized “To Steve”) and Rick Middleton headlining and complemented by auto’d cards of Schultz, Lambert (RC) and Paiement (RC). An EX-MT Scotty Bowman RC and a Bob Gainey RC (EX) are best among the key rookies, with the others all with a crease or creases or condition issues. From ’75-76 is a set of 396 plus most “traded” variations added, with eight autographed cards present and, like much of our consignor’s collection, a wide range of condition involved, most of it low-to-mid-grade, with star cards particularly rough in some cases (tape on a couple of the Drydens) and several of the same signers showing up multiple times – we’ll tell you about them at the end. An exception condition-wise are ’78-79 cards, markedly nicer than the others. Representing 1976-77 is a set minus a 313-Doug Jarvis RC and with 14 autographed cards, including rookie cards of Bryan Trottier (VG-EX with an AJ Sportsworld hologram on the reverse), Tiger Williams (P) and Dennis Maruk (EX-MT). A complete set of ’77-78s features 14 signed examples (Mike Palmateer and Stan Jonathan RCs), while a Mike Bossy autographed rookie card is crease-free but miscut and otherwise EX+ with it too featuring an aforementioned “AJ” hologram on the back. A dozen other signed cards contribute to the near set from ’78-79, with only 15-Parent required for completion. Now then, as for the signing lineup, the following players show up two or more times in this collection: Dennis Hull, Ron Ellis, Bob Nevin, Dan Bouchard, Rick Smith, Fred Barrett, Jim McKenny, Peter McDuffe, Frank St. Marseille, George Ferguson, Stan Weir, Dave Burrows, Dave Hutchison, Jack Valiquette and Glen Sharpley, with single appearances by Chico Maki, Gary Simmons, Jim Schoenfeld, Keith McCreary, Andre Savard, Dave Gardner, Bob Paradise and Mario Faubert.
