This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A dazzling autographed Quaker Oats/Maple Leafs extravaganza is on the auction block here and has several highlights, with 14 pictures signed by deceased Hall of Fame players. All-time great Ted Kennedy, known for his fierce competitiveness and leadership qualities, leads in the quantity department, with two fabulous images of “Teeder” and the Stanley Cup among the eight autographed by the valiant team captain, with a pinhole in one (Cup photo) and a small (3/4”) tear in the other. Kennedy included either “Teeder” or “Teeter” with each signature. A marvelous blue ballpoint autograph penned by Max Bentley (d.1984) and a Syl Apps (d.1998) sig preceded by “To John with best wishes” are appealing, as are photos signed by Harry Lumley (d.1998), Harry Watson (d.2002) and Fern Flaman (2), with fellow HOFer Leo Boivin also contributing. Most of the thin Quaker Oates premiums exhibit light to moderate bends but generally display well, although we spot a half dozen lower grade examples with back issues and a few others with pinholes. Please see our continuing web description for further details of this wonderful and thought-provoking collection.
The other signers, in alphabetical order, are Gus Bodnar, Cal Gardner (2 different), Bill Juzda (2 diff), Joe Klukay (2 diff), Danny Lewicki, Vic Lynn, Fleming Mackell, Howie Meeker (4)(2 diff), Rudy Migay, Gus Mortson, Jim Morrison, Eric Nesterenko (2), Bud Poile, Tod Sloan, Sid Smith, Bob Solinger, Wally Stanowski, Gaye Stewart (2 – blue tint and regular), Ron Stewart, Harry Taylor (2), Cy Thomas (2) and Ray Timgren (2 diff). Blue and black marker autographs dominate, with ballpoint sigs also present. The “other” Kennedy pictures include two posed with no “C” (blue tint and regular), two home (dark) uniform with “C” and two away (light) uniform action. Good luck with this inviting years-in-the-making booty.
