Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Evolving throughout the 20th century from the simple but laborious practice of utilizing brooms, shovels and small plows to serve as ice cleaning implements, to the modern and complex mechanical Zamboni machines utilized the world over, the cleaning – or resurfacing – of ice surfaces is featured in this rarely-seen lot, with a pair of vintage framed photos of the crews responsible for the ice at the hallowed Montreal Forum. Included, we have a circa-1930 8” x 10” photo of the ice maintenance crew at the Forum, shovels in hand, with the old wire cage above the boards visible. Matted with a plaque with French text beneath, the photo is framed to just under 15” x 19”. The second 8” x 10” photo pictures the Forum maintenance crew posed, with “1944-45” added to the image, with the photo placed within a 10” x 12” mount. The photographer J Louis Poirier of Montreal is listed on the mount, matted and framed to 18” x 22” with a small plaque at the base with the text again in French. Both photos appears to show just light wear.
