Existing for over 60 years and widely regarded as one of the greatest senior teams in Canadian history, the Trail Smoke Eaters represented the small smelting town of Trail in southeastern British Columbia. Allan Cup champions as the best senior team in the country in both 1938 and 1962, the Smoke Eaters also represented Canada and were victorious at the 1939 and 1961 IIHF World Championships. Originating from the collection of west coast collector Ray Scoffin, this Smoke Eaters jersey hails from the late-1970s/early-1980s. With no labeling intact and measuring-out to roughly a size 46, the vintage durene sweater sports a circular layered canvas team crest with both embroidered and chain-stitched detailing, with “18” sewn to the sleeves and verso in black-over-white tackle twill. The jersey also features custom-shortened sleeves.
Exhibiting heavy game-use with puck and stick marks present over the front, burns and material pulls are visible on each sleeve, with some discolouration and minor staining in areas. Both cuffs have been cut-away, and we should note that each reverse number has pulled away from it’s threading in sections. There is also some pilling to both the interior and exterior.
