Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club’s comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The last Canadian-based team to capture the Stanley Cup, the Montreal Canadiens defeated Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings in the 1993 finals, with the series going five games. The Habs would set a record with ten-straight overtime playoff wins, with Patrick Roy earning the Conn Smythe Trophy. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens and most likely displayed originally at the Montreal Forum and possibly later at the Molson/Bell Centre, we have a large framed “1992-93 Stanley Cup Champions” display, with this a reproduction of the original artwork by noted Canadiens’ artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 29” x 39” (exposed), the entire team and management are pictured in celebration, with St Patrick hoisting the Stanley Cup. The artist and date (1993) appear over the bottom right, double-matted and framed to full dimensions of approx 37” x 47”. There is some wear including a few marks to the matte, with some additional wear to the frame. We should also mention that the glass cover just the artwork, with the matte exposed, and please note that due to the excessive size/weight, special shipping arrangements may be required. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
