Canadiens great Henri Richard already had five of his all-time record 11 Stanley Cup championships to his credit when he signed this 1962-63 NHL standard player’s contract. The Pocket Rocket’s signature is one of three autographs of members of the Hockey Hall of Fame present on the document, including legendary Montreal GM Frank Selke and NHL president Clarence Campbell. Originally from the late Richard’s personal collection, this two-sided document bears bold blue ballpoint signatures by Selke and Richard, each witnessed by Canadiens secretary Lee Dillon. Campbell’s signed in fountain pen ink along with the NHL Central Registry Oct. 2, 1962 date stamp adjacent. Comes with Henri Richard's signed LOA.
The contract, which is dated Sept. 18, 1962, states Richard was to be paid a base salary of $22,000 for the 1962-63 season. A typed-in clause states “Player will received a bonus of $100.00 for every point he makes over sixty, including playoffs.”
Richard led the NHL with 50 assists and had scored 23 goals in 67 seasons for one of his best offensive seasons. He led the Canadiens with 73 points during the regular season, six more than Jean Beliveau. He added two points in Montreal’s 4-1 semi-final loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, putting him a total of 15 points over 60 in 1962-63, adding a bonus of $1,500 to his earnings for the season.
