Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Purchasing the Montreal Canadiens along with business partners Joseph Cattarinich and Hilarion Louis Létourneau in 1921, Leo Dandurand also served in the capacity of coach, leading the Habs from behind the bench for five seasons until and including 1925-26, with a Stanley Cup championship won in 1924. Dandurand would return for a single season, in 1934-35, with HOF enshrinement occurring as a builder, in 1963. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Dandurand by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Dandurand is wonderfully presented, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with some damage to the text on the matte and wear to the frame including a few blemishes. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
