When you say Plager, we say the St. Louis Blues! Bruising defenseman Bob Plager helped lead the expansion Blues to the Stanley Cup final in each of the team’s first three NHL seasons. Bob teamed up with brothers Bill and Barclay with all three Plager brothers playing defense for St. Louis. Bob’s 1977-78 game-worn jersey is from his final NHL season, when he played 18 games. The Blues retired No. 5 in his honor on Feb. 2, 2017. Rawlings size 50 tagging is in the collar of this Bluenote durene beauty with the alternate captain’s A on the left breast. There are three team repairs, board burns and red paint transfer on the sleeves, red and blue paint transfer on the rear tail, black marks on the tails and sleeves, and board burns and an unrepaired burn hole above the team crest. A fantastic gamer worn by a lifelong Blues legend!
There is evidence of a former circular patch removed from the left shoulder, which displays one of three team repairs. The Blues wore a "3" patch in 1977-78 in memory of defenseman Bob Gassoff, who was killed in a motorcycle crash on May 27, 1977. Another sewing fix is to the left of the No. 5 on the left sleeve, with a third square-shaped team repair on the left sleeve cuff.
There is also evidence of a former nameplate. The Blues would remove regular season nameplates and recycle the jerseys into the next preseason, so this jersey was most likely also used in the 1978-79 preseason. Puckering to the numbers and team crest are evidence of multiple washings. Some stitching has let go on the No. 5 on the back as well as on the team's Blue Note crest on the front, which displays paler colors due to wear and numerous washings. A "Sports Registry" sticker is affixed above the canvas fight strap loop in the back.
