Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
To the 1980s goes our consignor's wonderful array of unopened hockey card packs, with a swell chance here to compare O-Pee-Chee and Topps packs from '80-81 and '81-82. It was again a 396-card set and 20-cent packs for OPC in '80-81 but with 12 cards per pack, (down from the previous season's 14), while Topps packs housed ten cards and a folded team photo pin-up. Topps innovated with cards that had to be rubbed with a coin to reveal the players' names, with Ray Bourque's RC among the 264-card set but not Mark Messier's, the latter only available in OPC's issue. Graded NM 7 and NM+ 7.5 respectively, they're accompanied by OPC (NM-MT 8 and Topps (NM+ 7.5) entries from '81-82. Wayne Gretzky and numerous rookie cards of his Edmonton teammates were possible in 25-cent, 14-card OPC packs, with Topps' set broken up into somewhat confusing different releases; East and West among them and no difference in (13-card) packs or wrappers. NM-MT 8 (OPC) and NM+ 7.5 (Topps) were the marks received by the packs here, with light scratches to the GAI holders. More colorful goodies to add to an encapsulated wax pack shrine.
