Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Getting his start behind the bench in the WHA with the Indianapolis Racers in 1974-75, Jacques Demers would coach for just four seasons in the rival league, advancing to the NHL to lead Quebec during their inaugural campaign, in 1979-80. A total of fourteen seasons would be spent coaching in the NHL, with a Stanley Cup championship won with Montreal in 1993. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Jacques Demers by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, the former Conservative Senator is wonderfully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte (Demers coached the Canadiens from 1992 to 1996, but as the painting was executed in 1992, that is the only year listed). The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with a bit of damage to the text on the matte and light wear to the frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
