Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
A fabulous gathering of neat old premiums and collectibles to tell you about and tempt you with here, with crest/patch enthusiasts well served. Two seldom-seen vintage Red Wings felt crests, a little red-and-green-on-white Maple Leafs crest and a Black Hawks entry are of unknown origin and joined by cool early-1970s little round “Kraft” patches. A set of the latter is from 1971-72 and the fourteen-team era, with some different, not-often-seen color schemes among nine additional crests. Two full-page Kraft ads are swell complements and tell of the promotion, with four crests in their original packaging (some refer to them as “Frankenstein” patches due to the generic player’s flat head) representing the Red Wings, Black Hawks, Rangers and Sabres. We’re just getting started – please see below for more details of this diversified stash.
Various NHL team logos stickers are present and nine WHA decals appear on a sheet that informs of a Holsum Bread/Indianapolis Racers promotion. Two unopened packs of ’76-77 “Sportstix” stickers contain the same five players but with Tony Esposito and Pete Mahovlich appearing on top. Also from the ‘70s and cool are two Libby’s hockey pucks (Bruins, Rangers) with facsimile autographs, Blackhawks and Red Wings Dairy Queen Sundae Pucks and an empty glass jar of Bobby’s (Clarke) Peanut Putter, while neat vintage ads include a comic ad for Frito-Lay’s “Breakaway” game. Representing the 1980s are an apparent set of classic NHL logo 3” pinback buttons, 13 pucks made out of soap (still packaged), Canadiens and Nordiques Provigo puffy sticker sets (with two and one dozen respectively of duplicates), five unopened wrist watches (Bossy, Chelios, Carbonneau, Salming, Goulet) plus 17 loose “cards” involved in packaging and two dozen mid-‘80s mini banners, one of them hailing the ’85-86 Cup champion Canadiens.
We’ve saved the killer O-Pee-Chee Bozo gum dispensers for towards the end, with an older one exhibiting use and wear, with the piece where the gumball arrives broken-off, but the other never used and amazingly still in an original box that has splendid O-Pee-Chee graphics, along with a Bozo Vendor Warranty Registration card, stamp-dated “June 5 – 1972”. A mini Sher-Wood hockey stick, with a big Henri Richard facsimile autograph on the blade looks to date back to the 1960s, while unique is a 1976 Minneapolis Star newspaper comic printing plate, with Snoopy featured at the top in a hockey-related comic. More recent items helping to round things out are an actual autographed Johnny Bower bobblehead doll, a 1992 Classic Draft Pics Gold Set in unopened wooden box form, two stretching packages of McFarlane figurines, with four 2002 Team Canada players featured in each and a few miscellaneous items, including a plaque with six mounted photo pucks. What a bonanza to have some fun/make some money with!
