Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Led by longtime veteran and team captain Bob Gainey, the Montreal Canadiens concluded their 77th season of play in 2nd place in the Adams Division in 1985-86, advancing to the postseason. Boston, Hartford and the Rangers would all be defeated in the playoffs, with the Habs taking out Calgary in 5 games to claim their 23rd Stanley Cup championship. A great game-used stick collection is available, with 9 specimens used by members of the 1986 Stanley Cup champion Canadiens (there is also a tenth stick, with a game-issued John Kordic example). Included, we have sticks used by Bobby Smith, Mike McPhee, Mario Tremblay, Chris Nilan, Gaston Gingras, Brian Skrudland, Petr Svoboda, Mike Lalor and Randy Bucyk. Models mostly include Sher-Wood, along with a KOHO (Svoboda), with each player’s name on his respective stick. The original blade and shaft tape jobs also remain intact, with just the Tremblay and Lalor sticks having the blade tape removed. The sticks all exhibit moderate to heavier game-use, with all blades intact and no breaks, and we should note that while the majority of the sticks appear to date from the era, some examples may have been used before or after 1985-86 and possibly with other teams.
