Big hoard of O-Pee-Chee cards from the 1980s and the days when some would “wrap” sets up equals multiples of several interesting rookie cards, along with numerous Wayne Gretzky cards from when the Oilers were priming. We’ll list the number of sets, with key RCs in brackets, beginning with Wayne’s second-year appearance of 1980-81 (four sets – Messier, Bourque, Gartner). There are then five ’81-82 sets (Coffey, Kurri, Moog, Savard, Murphy, Stastny, Ciccarelli), five from ’82-83 (Fuhr, Francis, Hawerchuk), one from ’83-84 (Lindbergh, Stevens), one from ’85-86 (Lemieux RC is a fake/reprint, MacInnis) and one from ’87-88 (Robitaille, Oates). As for overall condition, no real high grade cards are discovered upon inspection of the key cards in the first couple of years, with VG to EX tending to best describe them. Sharper are the other assemblies, with NMs showing up more often than previously. What an inventory these bricks will be to the new owner.
*Please note that these sets were consigned to us as being complete. We’ve inspected a few but not all; there may be a small number of cards missing, although key rookie cards look to be present. Good luck with this interesting 1980s project.
*Groups of key/star cards were wrapped separately from the rest of the set, in most cases, so after examining some of them we can tell you about three each from ’80-81: Messier RC (best is VG-EX, two others have a significant crease), Bourque RC (EX, VG-EX, F) and #250-Gretzky (VG and two low grade (paper loss, erased writing)), while most notable from five ’81-82 assemblies are Coffey RC (two VGs, three with significant issues), Kurri RC (best are EX-MT, EX+, VG) and 106-Gretzky (two EX-MTs, others are creased VG or lower). We’ll let an entrepreneurial hobbyist crack the other bricks – you’ll have mucho sorting and pricing fun!
