One of the first nine original Hockey Hall of Fame inductees and the only American, Hobey Baker excelled at numerous sports - first at St Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire - then on the collegiate level with Ivy League standout Princeton. Enrolling in 1910, Baker was a member of the Class of 1914, and starred for both the hockey and football squads throughout his tenure. The 1911 football season witnessed “the blond Adonis of the gridiron” score 92 points; a Tigers record that would stand for over sixty years, the school led by Baker lost only a single match the following season in 1912, when the offered Harvard football program and ticket stub were issued. At 7” x 11” and proclaiming “Harvard”, “Princeton” and “1912” on the cover along with an image of Harvard Stadium, the 55 page booklet is unscored, with Baker listed in the line-up, with an image of the superstar advertising Henderson Motor Cars on page 29. The ticket stub for the match is approx 2 ½” x 3”, with the “November 2, 1912” date listed (the match was won by Harvard, 16-6).
The program exhibits it’s age with wear along the spine including small tears, with the “cover” detached (the front and back covers are a single fold-over sheet that is still attached, but the interior booklet in detached), with the first page torn with a small segment affixed to the inside cover. There is also a bit of glue residue to the inside cover, with the program displaying well overall. The ticket stub shows expected wear including a crease, with a bit of paper loss on the verso. A single page from a period publication is also included (5” x 7”), and it pictures Baker along with Walter Camp’s son, Walter Camp Jr.
