Glen Wesley was on his way to a career high in goals (19) in his sophomore season with Boston when he made his only All-Star Game appearance in 1989. The 40th NHL All-Star Game patch sits on the right shoulder of Wesley’s Wales Conference All-Stars game-worn jersey. The Bruins defenseman scored on HOFer Grant Fuhr at 3:16 of the second period to put the Wales All-Stars up 3-2 for their only lead of the game which saw Wayne Gretzky claim MVP honors in a 9-5 win for the Campbells. Size “52” is handwritten in blue ballpoint on the Maska flag tag in the back of the neck of his black No. 25 All-Star gamer, which has reddish-brown stains low on the right sleeve and tiny marks on each sleeve cuff.
Wesley was on the losing end of his first two appearances in the Stanley Cup finals with Boston in 1988 and 1990 before hoisting Lord Stanley triumphantly as a member of the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. His 54 points in 1988-89 were the second-highest total of his career, behind only his 58-point season in 1993-94, his last with the Bruins before he was traded to the Hartford Whalers.
