Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
One of the original twelve franchises of the World Hockey Association in 1972, the Quebec Nordiques competed throughout the league’s existence and later served as one of the four NHL expansion clubs, in 1979-80. The Nordiques would win their lone Avco Cup championship in 1977. This lot offers a Nordiques commemorative plaque from 1972, a photo with John Zielger and Nordiques representatives celebrating joining the NHL in 1979, and a Nordiques multi-signed souvenir folder with first-season WHA and NHL team photos. The plexiglass plaque is 12” x 15” and formatted like a stock certificate, with the club’s particulars listed including “This certifies that La Societe Bruneau ENRG is the holder of a franchise authorizing it to compete as a member of the World Hockey Association”. There is moderate to heavier wear to the plaque including surface scratches, with some white paint residue visible along the top and bottom edges. The folder is 9” x 11” (unopened), with a Nords logo on the cover, with the 8” x 10” team photos affixed to the interior pages (the 1972-73 photo is now detached). Fourteen have signed the cover in mixed inks including past NHL president John Ziegler, along with additional WHA/NHL Nordiques executives including John Dacres, Maurice Filion, Marcel Aubut, Jean Lesage, Jean-Claude Tremblay and others. A few signatures are light, with heavy wear to folder including creasing, staining and a large edge tear. Lastly, the 1979 photo is 8” x 10” and matted to 11” x 13”, with wear to the matte.
