After a decade of success in the F1 world, Villeneuve joined to BMW Sauber team for his final season in 2006. This large collection is highlighted by a pair of race-worn Puma gloves along with a signed pair of race-worn Puma boots from that year. Also included are a pair of signed race-issued Puma boots from 2006 which feature a dated sample tag along with an autographed pair worn during the early 2010s when he was driving in NASCAR races. There are also eight pieces of Nomex racing underwear (three signed) and three signed race-issued visors in this group which span his remarkable career. Originating from Jacques’ personal collection, a signed LOA will accompany.
The blue, black, and white race-worn Puma gloves each feature writing on each of the inside cuffs stating “JV4 BMW 2006” and exhibit minimal wear. The race-used Puma boots from 2006 are well-worn and include tagging stating that they were made specifically for Villeneuve. Each boot is boldly signed in black ink near the toe and show plenty of dark marks toward the heels.
The race-issued boots are an intriguing item as they are “fit and wear test samples” provided to Villeneuve by Puma. They are size 40.5 and the date of production is listed as June 27, 2006. Featuring canvas instead of leather, they still have the tongue and hanging tags attached along with the original crumpled paper inside to maintain their shape. Villeneuve signed both sample shoes in black ink.
During Villeneuve’s time with NASCAR, he donned the race-worn size 7.5 Alpinestars boots included in this grouping. Exhibiting mild wear on the exterior and interior pilling, both boots are also signed in black ink by the legendary driver.
There are two different Puma balaclavas here, one of which was signed by Villeneuve. Both show evidence of wear and customization where a hole was cut out to help keep him hydrated during the race. The signed balaclava has a Puma logo stitched onto it along with a red tag on the back while the unsigned balaclava has no logo on the front and a blue tag instead along with a small patch which states “BMW Sauber F1 Villeneuve Jacques”.
Villeneuve also signed a shirt that is part of this collection. It is a Stand21 Racewear t-shirt which is autographed in black in on the front left near the neck. The assortment of off-white Nomex racing underwear includes one long Puma-branded set which is signed by Villeneuve on the left side near the neck, a Sparco ¾ length pair, and a pair of Sparco pyjama-style bottoms. All these pieces demonstrate evidence of wear and pilling. The long Puma underwear does have a circular pink stain on the neck area behind the tagging.
Both pairs of socks have yellowed slightly with age, but tags are still present on each sock. There are two distinct styles here, one with Alpine branding and the other coming from Puma. The latter pair features additional patching which notes “BMW Sauber F1 Villeneuve Jacques” like the one of the previously noted balaclavas.
Rounding out this lot are three race-issued visors that Villeneuve has signed. There are three different styles and one of them is tinted and signed in silver ink.
