Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Ranging from the late-1800s to the 1950s, this lot offers a collection of antique and vintage skates totaling 6 pairs, highlighted by two high-quality pairs of skates from the early-1900s. First, we have a beautiful pair of steel skates from the 1800s by Staal with wooden bases and fully intact leather hardware, with light use exhibited. This is followed by the high-quality skates from the early-1900s, with the first pair featuring McPherson’s “Lightning Hitch” black leather hockey boots with “Cycle Pleasure” blades – likely produced by CCM, with the size 10 skates showing good use including to each underside but displaying beautifully. The second pair of high-quality skates from the early-1900s include beige leather boots – likely worn by a female hockey enthusiast – along with Starr Regis model tempered blades, with the pair showing moderate use and displaying wonderfully. This is followed by a boxed set of Planerts Winner model hockey skates with attractive blade decals, with advertising from Chicago’s Mush March, with light wear to each including salting to some grommets and heavy wear and damage to the box. Rounding out the lot, we have a vintage pair of speed skates with black leather boots produced in Amsterdam by J. Havekotte, with 17 ½” blades and light wear to each, and a pair of infants “Dominion” clamp skates in the original box, with the strapping intact and moderate wear. As an added bonus, a single steel skate with wooden base and curled tip from the 1800s is also included, with damage to the base and heavy pitting.
