Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
Classic collectibles here are the likes of which were available to Coca-Cola and/or Sprite drinkers during the 1965-66 hockey season. Coke and Sprite bottle caps with crossed hockey sticks on them included the name of one of the six NHL teams printed on their cork liners. Ten liners with the same team name could be sent-in in return for a corresponding team set (of 18 cards), with the cards attached/perforated and designed to be torn apart and placed in a special album. On the end of each strip of cards was a detachable mail-in form for the album, with all of the said forms still attached on the team sets offered here and yes, the cards in their original accordion-style form. Condition is very appealing and difficult-to-expect-nicer, with only a couple of very light corner touches spotted on the first card of the Black Hawks (Hall) and Maple Leafs (Bower) examples. On thick paper stock, the cards look like they might have been looked at once. The envelopes in which they came in are still present too, with the name of Coke/Sprite lover in Matane, Quebec written on one that has a 5-cent stamp affixed to it. It, along with one other has three scotch tape stains, with light toning observed on all envelopes. All the familiar stars and superstars of the day are included, as well as early cards of then future stars Yvan Cournoyer, Bernie Parent and Gerry Cheevers - you'll love'em!
