A member of the Team Canada squad that took on the Russians in 1974, Serge Bernier spent the majority of his career in the WHA with Quebec, with additional NHL time with Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Originating from his personal collection, we have Bernier’s Team Canada track pants from 1974, accompanied by a 1980s oldtimers jersey, two pairs of gloves, a 1970s NY Rangers equipment bag and a plain green jersey. The track pants are in solid blue and feature red maple leafs running down each side, with no labeling present and light wear. The oldtimes jersey has Maska labeling with “XXL” sizing, with a “Les Celebrites sur Glace” team crest, with “Bernier” rubberized over the reverse. The gloves include KOHO and Vaughn pairs in solid blue, with the possibility existing of use during his time with the Nordiques for the KOHO gloves (they exhibit heavy wear), with the later Vaughn examples likely seeing oldtimers use. A signed LOA from Serge Bernier will accompany.
Featuring the embroidered shield crest of the club, the New York Rangers equipment bag originates from the 1970s, and was utilized by a player for endless Blueshirts road stints. In solid Rangers’ blue, the shield crest appears over one side with the club name stenciled, with a sleeve with inserted “14” placard over the opposite (a number of players wore the #14 sweater for New York in the 1970s, including Don Luce, Bruce MacGregor, Mike Murphy, Real Lemieux, Bert Wilson, Pat Hickey, Eddie Johnstone and Don Murdoch). A faded label from MSG supplier Gerry Cosby sits over the top, with the bag exhibiting especially heavy use, with considerable wear to the material throughout including over the canvas-lined straps. There are also a few tears to the material visible. While we’re not sure of the bags origin as Bernier never spent time with the Blueshirts, it does hail from his personal collection.
