Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
Lovers of old baseball cards will enjoy sifting through this (double!) shoebox-like find, with over 500 cards from the 1950s leading chronologically. A 1956 Jackie Robinson card (VG), a ’54 Willie Mays (G) and a ’58 Ted Williams (G) are most notable. Condition is on the lower end, especially with the 100+ 1954 to ’56 entries (five dozen ’54 Bowmans are present), but a with a little more star power in 100+ from 1957 (Clemente, Colavito RC), ’58 (100+)(Cepeda RC, Drysdale, Hodges) and ’59 (150+)(F. Robinson, Kaline, Snider). The 1960s entries carry much of the weight, with approximate card totals as follows: 1960 (160), 1961 (400+), 1962 (200), 1963 (200+), 1964 (100), 1969 (200+), with small amounts of 1965-1968 cards. Please see our website for more details – we knew we’d run out of space – and images of key cards.
Condition improves in the 1960s, with duplication also to mention, along with the fact that the cards, more often than not, are not in numerical order. A 1968 Johnny Bench rookie (G+) is to note, along with a '69 Mickey Mantle (VG), while most plentiful from the 1970s are 1970 cards (100+), with 100+ from the late-‘70s and well over a hundred from 1980, the latter stack highlighted by a Rickey Henderson RC (VG-EX). Several pleasant surprises are likely in a row of a 3200-count box featuring 1980s and miscellaneous cards. It’s an interesting grab-bag for a collector or dealer – You’ll have perusing and sorting fun galore!
