Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

With some definite appeal is this varied lot, somewhat peculiar in that the older cards are in better condition than the most recent ones. Highlights include the first card mentioned in our title, with card #1-Canadiens on guard from 1959-60 in attractive crease-free EX+ condition, with Jacques Plante also in action on card 39-Action around the net (EX-MT) from the previous season. Most noteworthy rookie cards to contribute are Punch Imlach's from '59-60 (EX+) and that of Jean Ratelle (VG-EX) from Topps' '61-62 issue. Terry Sawchuk (VG+) headlines (19) crease-free, mostly VG-EX to EX '63-64 Parkies, with Johnny Bower and RCs of Harper, Douglas (2 different) and MacMillan among them. Topps entries of note include '57-58 Ken Wharram RC and 36-Pilote (both EX-MT), '59-60 Delevecchio (VG+), '60-61 examples of Shack (EX-MT) and Pilote (VG-EX+), '61-62 Bathgate (VG+), a second-year Ratelle (VG) and '63-64 cards of Harvey, Ratelle and Pilote (all VG). An all-Hall of Fame group of '66-67s (8) is led condition-wise by an Emile Francis RC (EX-MT), with Howe, Beliveau, Horton, Geoffrion, Mahovlich, Gilbert and Cournoyer in the VG to VG+ realm. A stack of late-'60s and early-'70s cards features numerous stars (Savard and Park RCs, Orr (9), Howe (2), Sawchuk (2), Mikita (2), Plante and still others), but condition is mostly low grade (P-F-G), so we'll move on to what we saved for last - the best! .....Complete sets of '68-69 O-Pee-Chee Puck Sticker inserts are not often offered, with the 22-piece ensemble here quite appealing indeed. We spot just one crease throughout (2-Mahovlich), with others exhibiting EX and EX+ (a few EX-MT) characteristics. But then of course is the question of factory/production tick/prick marks commonly plaguing this issue. The type that we usually see (leaving a white scrape) are present on just five here, while one has to look close to spot two extremely small marks (like the tip of a pin made a little indentation) in the rest, with the top mark thankfully in the white above the circular "puck". Orr, Hull, Horton, Keon, Sawchuk, Beliveau and Gordie Howe's 700th Goal example are among those in the less-affected group. The stickers with the more serious flaws are those of Worsley, Vasko, Angotti, Harvey and Plante. Break-up value galore is offered with this years-in-the-making lot.
