Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Vying for Lord Stanley’s hardware during the memorable centennial of our great nation in 1967, the paramount battle between the sport’s most predominant clubs resulted in the Toronto Maple Leafs defeating a heavily favoured Montreal Canadiens squad to claim their 13th and most recent championship. This lot offers a desirable collection of 11 late-1960s postcards signed by members of the Leafs including 3 HOFers, highlighted by a gorgeous Tim Horton specimen. At the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, each blank-backed postcard has the respective players name along the base, with the majority signed in blue ballpoint. Included with Horton are postcards signed by HOFers Norm Ullman and Dave Keon, along with Ellis, Glennie, Harrison, Ley, Dorey, Oliver, McKenny and Mike Walton. We should also note that the Horton and Oliver postcards appear to originate from the 1966-67 season, while the remaining postcards appear to be from 1969-70.
The Horton signature is absolutely gorgeous and remains dark, with just light surface and corner wear to the postcard itself. The remaining signatures present nicely with no issues (the Ley is just a tiny bit light), with Harrison and Oliver both adding personalizations. The postcards themselves remain in especially pleasing condition, with just light corner touches and some minor toning the only concerns. We should also note a small area of paper loss over the reverse of the McKenny postcard.
