Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
The first numbered card in the 1940 Play Ball card set depicts Joltin' Joe DiMaggio and was released the summer after the legend was, as the informative text on the back informs, "without a doubt....the outstanding fly-chaser in the American League." The number one batsman (and A.L. MVP!) too, with Joe flirting with the .400 mark and finishing with a career high .381 average to win his first of two straight batting titles, following it up with a .352 mark in 1940. We do not detect any creases affecting Joe's image here, with rounded corners and a small area of paper loss on the reverse contributing to the FR 1.5 mark assigned recently by PSA. The kingpin of the 240-card Play Ball set of 1940 awaits your DiMaggio/vintage/encapsulated card shrine.
