Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

One of the greatest sports heroes of all-time, Babe Ruth was depicted on four different (rookie) cards in Goudey's forever-popular (240-card) set of 1933. That was Ruth's second-to-last year in Yankee pinstripes as he slowed(!) to just 34 homers after seven straight 40-or-more home run campaigns which included back-to-back seasons of 60 and 54 (1927, '28). This card #181 is for those who would like to own an authentic, unaltered, encapsulated Ruth rookie card without doling out a comparative fortune for a higher grade example. Creases and rounded corners are obvious, with apparent red ink transfer on the back where Babe's former prowess as a pitcher is mentioned, along with "One of the keenest students of baseball" and "one of the hardest men to pitch to in the game." Ruth actually pitched one game for the Yanks in '33; a complete game 12-hitter was his final victory (career #94) in his last-ever mound appearance - cool.
