Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Originally created to appeal to Montreal’s large francophone community and to be composed of French-Canadien players, the Montreal Canadiens were founded by J. Ambrose O'Brien in 1909 as a charter member of the NHL’s direct descendant, the NHA, and after a short half-decade of competition, the franchise claimed their first Stanley Cup championship, in 1916. Extremely rare as the first example we have ever handled, this first edition “Halte-La! Les Canadiens Sont La!” booklet chronicles the Habs' first 26 NHL seasons, and is packed with wonderful player images and pertinent French-language text. At approx 9” x 12”, the 98-page booklet exhibits toning and very light soiling to the covers, with the interior pages fairly clean, with a few center pages detached. As an added bonus, a 1933-34 Canadiens postcard in poor condition is included, with creases, pinholes, material loss and heavy glue residue over the reverse.
