Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The Canadiens and Maple Leafs were again the subjects depicted by Parkhurst in the company's 1958-59 hockey card effort, with a partial set averaging G+ (or VG at best), with G+, VG and VG+ cards showing up the most often, but with some stars among the lesser lights. A VG+ Maurice Richard card has a classic Parkhurst stain on the back, with a bigger stain affecting the reverse of the otherwise G+ card of Jacques Plante. Condition exceptions among the star cards are Mahovlich (P)(heavy crease, glue residue) and Horton (F), with a VG-in-appearance Bower affected by light glue residue. In the aforementioned range are Henri Richard, 16-Backstrom RC, Beliveau and Armstrong, with Harvey (G) a little weaker. Several action cards are not present (#s 1, 7, 11, 21, 26 and 36), the others being 5-Langlois RC, 13-Nevin RC and 28-Geoffrion. Low grade duplicates are an almost all-Leafs affair (16/17), with Mahovlich (paper loss - front), Bower (tape) and Armstrong (multiple creases) all P, with Charlie Hodge (F) the lone Canadiens representative.
