Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
This bronze sculpture on a wooden base is a memento that members of the NHL All-Star team and representatives received for taking part in the 1979 Challenge Cup that featured the Soviets as the opposition. The faceless hockey player and wooden base combine for a height of just less than 8” while engraved on the metal plaque is “Challenge Cup 1979 – NHL-USSR-NHLPA”. It must be noted that the plaque is a replacement as the original one was missing. The sculpture remains in excellent condition while the wooden base has some wear, scuffing and the light brown finish is worn-off in some areas. Also included is the 1979 NHL All-Star team official team photo which is matted to full dimensions of approx. 16” x 20” with the actual team photo measuring roughly 10 ½” x 13 ½”. Some creases and small defects are noticeable on the mat with the team photo displaying very nicely. A signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany.
Other included goodies are; 1978 NHL All-Star Team Prince of Wales Conference official team photo with a letter signed by HOFer Brian O’Neil (7 ½” x 9 ½” photo mounted on a 14” x 17” mat – has small defects to the mat), 1980 NHL All-Star Team Wales Conference team photo (approx. 8” x 10” – some damage to upper edge area and top right corner), modern print of Gainey and teammates at an All-Star Game and a Raymond Weil NHL – NHLPA wristwatch (some wear and damage to the leather band – unknown if in working condition).
