Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The Vintage Memorabilia collection from 2011-12 In The Game Captain-C is a beautiful and challenging project that few have/will ever complete, rendering this opportunity tempting and possibly unique. Comprised of 40 "Silver Version" cards limited to just nine copies each, captains from the past are prominently featured alongside a hefty chunk of their game-used memorabilia. The checklist covers numerous decades/eras, ranging from the 1910s to the early-1980s and is close to an all-Hall of Fame affair, with just seven players featured not in the Hall - wow. The high bidder will be fascinated with pieces of jerseys of Hainsworth, Howe, Maurice and Henri Richard, Harvey, Beliveau, Schmidt, Abel, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Mikita, Keon, Bucyk, Phil Esposito, Savard, Cournoyer, Clarke, Park, Sittler, Potvin, Gillies, Arbour and still others, while thought-provoking are pieces of gloves used by King Clancy, Charlie Conacher, Bill Gadsby and goalie Bill Durnan, the latter indeed a captain of the Canadiens in the 1940s. Another goalie/captain included is Charlie Gardinar, with his image matched up with a piece of one of his goalie pads - cool. Pieces of leather taken from the skates worn by Nels Stewart, Hap Day, Toe Blake and Dit Clapper contribute as does a leather piece of Ted Kennedy's shoulder pads and a piece of Newsy Lalonde's game-used....pants! The aforementioned non-HOFers are Bob Davidson, Stapleton, Hadfield, Unger, O'Reilly and Gare, as well as one Russian representative, Boris Mikhailov. What a brilliant ensemble!
