Being offered to the hobby for the first time and sure to garner interest is this alluring 1964 Topps set that, like the title indicates, has had but one owner. We'll get right to the graded lowdown, with Beckett deeming #29-Lou Brock, 225-Roger Maris and 306-Mays/Cepeda - Giant Gunners worthy of 7.5 Near Mint+ recognition. At 7 Near Mint are Koufax and Aaron, while Mantle and Banks are slabbed 6.5 EX-MT+. Pete Rose's second-year card leads a group of five at 6 EX-MT, the others being 21-Berra, 280-Marichal, 331-A.L. Bombers (Maris-Cash-Mantle-Kaline) and 390-Cepeda. Receiving marks of 5.5 EX+ are 400-Spahn and 423-Aaron/Mays - Tops in NL, with 380-Ford and 440-Clemente completing the encapsulated contingent at 5 EX. Meanwhile, the raw lineup is dominated by EX, EX+ and EX-MT cards, (with the two former outnumbering the latter), while a smaller percentage make it to NM or better. As one would expect, the ungraded star/rookie cards have minor flaws that deterred submission and sending most to the EX and EX+ realm, with however the Phil Niekro RC notable at EX-MT. We spot less than a half-dozen creased cards (260-F. Robinson) and a similar amount of coin-rubbed backs (350-McCovey), with card #1-NL ERA Leaders (G) and 433-Yankees Team (two creases (G)) among the few condition exceptions. Two vertical print lines through Willie Mays' right eye affect Willie's otherwise EX (#150) card. Checklists are unmarked and oh, how the new owner will enjoy sifting through the 587 cards which have been cherished for well over five decades, with other notables rookie cards (of a RC class of 79) being those of Tommy John, Tony Conigliaro, Richie Allen, Lou Piniella, Tony LaRussa and Mickey Lolich.
