The Canada Starch Company’s response to its competitor’s popular “Bee Hive” photos in the mid-1930s were these pictures, known as Crown Brand photos, issued from 1935 to 1940.
Montreal Canadiens (30) and Maroons (15) players dominate the lineup here, with almost all pictures included having condition issues including, but not limited to, re-glued photos, unglued photos, creased backings, trimmed backings, stains, glue/paper residues, pin holes/staple holes are among the grade-lowering flaws. The beige backings do seem to be all the vintage ones although not necessarily the ones to which the photos were originally mounted on.
Better pictures include Howie Morenz (re-glued photo, some damage to backing), Aurele Joliat (re-glued photo, small area of glue residues on top right corner of photo, some damage to backing), Toe Blake (re-glued photo, damage to backing including paper loss on the back upper edge), Babe Siebert (re-glued photo, paper loss on back upper edge of backing, some stains to the photo). Other favorites included are the team photos which includes; 1935-36 Montreal Canadiens (unglued photo, small defects on the eges of the backing); 1936-37 Montreal Canadiens (rough and no backing); 1937-38 Montreal Canadiens (re-glued photo, damage to backing, discoloration to upper edge area of photo and folds, heavy glue residues on back); 1938-39 Montreal Canadiens (re-glued photo, damage to the backing including stains, some folds/creases to the photo); 1936 Canadian Olympic Team (unglued photo which has small defects, numerous creases to the backing); 1934-35 Montreal Maroons (unglued photo, minor defects to photo and backing); 1936-37 Montreal Maroons (re-glued photos, many creases, stains and defects to photo and backing) and 1937-38 Montreal Maroons (re-glued photo which has small defects, many creases/defects to the backing).
