Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
A post-war revival of the American Hockey Association, the United States Hockey League operated from 1945 to 1951 and featured the Paul W. Loudon Trophy awarded to each seasons playoff champion. The 1948-49 USHL season featured eight clubs, with the St. Paul Saints taking home the Loudon Trophy. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have team-signed sheets from four of the eight 1948-49 USHL clubs including the champion Saints, along with the Omaha Knights, Tulsa Oilers and Kansas City Pla-Mors. At 5 ½” x 7”, each matching card stock “Hockey Stars” sheet features signatures placed in two vertical rows, with the team listed along the top. Standouts include HOFer Clint Smith (coach of St Paul), Reg Hamilton (coach of Kansas City), Al Rollins (Kansas City), Vic Stasiuk (Kansas City) and “Mud” Bruneteau (Omaha).
Each signature has been scripted in ink, with the majority displaying beautifully despite being somewhat bunched-up. The card stock sheets all show residue on the reverse from previous scrapbook insertion, with three having the team’s address affixed to the front through way of clear but now yellowed tape.
