Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Classic accumulation of Bee Hive and Quaker Oats premium pictures here is rather uninspiring but is accompanied by a few less-often-seen pieces that collectors of vintage material will likely find interesting. Some two dozen Parade Sportive pictures on paper stock from the 1940s include a scarce team photo of the 1943-44 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens. It has considerable peripheral wear (creases, multiple edge tears), but is joined by a beauty shot of the the Habs' Punch Line (EX+), a blue-tinted shot of Morenz, Joliat and Gagnon (VG) and oversized colored-tinted affairs (red, green, blue) of G. Mantha, Gagnon, Fillion and Majeau, with the others featuring Broda, Laprade and then mostly Canadiens players and condition generally crease-free and pleasing. A couple of big early O-Pee-Chee cards (5" x 7") are noteworthy; from '39-40 is a #98-Bill Cowley rookie card, while from '40-41 is 146-Syl Apps, with both acceptable G examples. .....Now then, as for the Bee Hives, six Canadiens are lower grade Group 1 representatives, with Toe Blake and Aurele Joliat (stains) among them, while no real tough pictures are in a batch of three dozen from Group 2. Several Hall of Famers and goalies however are present, along with Godfrey of the Bruins ("W" under skate), with decent mid-grade condition to mention. Close to two dozen (23) Group 3s include Plante (stains), Hull promotional and Pulford (with #20) but are affected by moisture damage that resulted in warping. Canadiens (43) and Maple Leafs (4) are Quaker Oats entries, with two of the same Maurice Richard, two different of Bill Durnan, Butch Bouchard and others, with ten green-tinted photos, Lach, Blake, McNeil, Harvey and possibly a few pleasant variation surprises among the rest. Condition is acceptable with light to moderate bends throughout. ....Completing is a nifty 5-1/2" by 7-1/2" picture of Gordie Howe late in his career with the Whalers, autographed by the legend and pasted to an old Crown Brand photo backing. Intriguing vintage goodies offer numerous possibilities.
