Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
A smorgasbord of York goodies is offered up here and we'll give you the rundown chronologically, starting with half a dozen 5" by 7" Canadiens photos from 1960-61. Beliveau and Provost (VG) are the nicest, while Richard is similar but with writing on the back, with low grade pictures of Bonin (creases), Backstrom and Moore, the latter two with staple holes, also present. A '61-62 near set (39/42) of octagon-shaped cards (yellow backs) features just one creased example, with however most exhibiting a very subtle something-or-other on the backs - it's debatable whether they were once lightly affixed. A full '61-62 set meanwhile is indeed glued into a York album, with marks on the covers and writing on the inside cover but a decent paste job to report, with text in French visible above/below the mostly attractive cards. A second album is empty, exhibits wear to the cover and evidence of eight cards having been pasted and removed. Iron-on transfers from '62-63 include fold lines and depict Hall of Famers Terry Sawchuk, Dick Duff and Bob Pulford, while actually ironed onto an approximately 12" by 25" handkerchief-like piece of white cloth are 16 different transfers; four Canadiens (Geoffrion, Beliveau) and six each of the Maple Leafs (Mahovlich, Keon, Armstrong) and Red Wings (Sawchuk, Ullman) - a cool homemade production. Miscellaneous items completing the stash are two one-pound peanut butter jars with different lids advertising the York cards, a low grade "white back" of Gordie Howe and a half-dozen low grade cards from the scarcer '67-68 action card set. You know what we're going to say now...."lots of possibilities" ....with these nifty premiums. ....oh, the required cards to complete the near '61-62 set are numbers 9-Stanley, 11-Johnson and 22-Blake.
